Our doctors

Two doctors. One connected model of care.

Preventative and longevity-focused medicine with direct access to specialist endocrinology when needed.

Start with focused modern medical care. Escalate seamlessly when specialist endocrinology is needed.

Medical Longevity Institute brings together Dr Sindeep Bhana's depth in specialist endocrinology and internal medicine with Dr Arnav Kapur's focus on preventative, longevity, metabolic and hormonal medicine.

Dr Kapur is the first point of care for many patients at MLI, particularly across preventative health, metabolic medicine, medical weight management, men's and women's hormonal health, fatigue, gut health and hair loss.

Where a presentation requires specialist endocrine assessment, care can be escalated directly to Dr Bhana within the same practice.

The result is a simple patient pathway: start with the most appropriate consultation, investigate properly, and bring in specialist depth when it genuinely adds value.

Specialist endocrinology

Dr Sindeep Bhana

Specialist Physician & Endocrinologist

Former Principal Specialist and Head of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, with more than two decades of experience across endocrinology, metabolic medicine and preventative care.

Dr Bhana provides the specialist endocrine depth within MLI and remains closely involved in its clinical philosophy and medical direction.

Dr Sindeep Bhana is a specialist physician and endocrinologist whose career spans academic medicine, specialist endocrinology and more than two decades of functional, preventative and metabolic medicine.

He is a former Principal Specialist and former Head of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital.

He began practising functional medicine in 2003, developing an approach that integrates endocrinology, metabolism, nutrition, body composition, hormonal health, prevention and healthy ageing.

His endocrinology background provided the foundation for work on many of the issues that now sit at the centre of preventative medicine: insulin resistance, metabolic dysfunction, hormonal change, obesity, thyroid disease, inflammation, body composition and the biological changes associated with ageing.

Over time, this broader approach became the foundation of the Centre of Advanced Medicine, which Dr Bhana founded in Waverley, Johannesburg. The same philosophy now underpins the Medical Longevity Institute.

Academic and professional career

Dr Bhana is an alumnus of the University of the Witwatersrand and remains closely involved in academic medicine. He is an Honorary Lecturer in the Department of Internal Medicine and Division of Endocrinology at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital and the University of the Witwatersrand.

His contribution to medical education has been recognised with the University of the Witwatersrand Gold Medal for Teaching Excellence and the Philip Tobias Award for teaching. He has also appeared across television and other media platforms discussing a wide range of health, hormonal, metabolic and preventative medicine topics.

Dr Bhana is currently:

  • Founder and Director of the Centre of Advanced Medicine
  • CEO of Whole Again Nutraceuticals
  • Doctor in charge of the Advanced Drip Centre
  • Honorary Lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand
  • Specialist Physician and Endocrinologist

His role within the Medical Longevity Institute

Dr Bhana's direct clinical work is focused on cases that genuinely require specialist physician or endocrinology input.

  • Complex thyroid disease
  • Pituitary disorders
  • Adrenal disease
  • Difficult-to-control diabetes
  • Unusual endocrine disorders
  • Complex hormonal pathology

He continues to shape the clinical philosophy and medical direction of the Institute alongside this specialist work.

Many patients searching for an endocrinologist in Johannesburg, however, are actually seeking help with broader concerns such as weight, insulin resistance, metabolic health, fatigue, early thyroid abnormalities, hormonal health or preventative health. These patients can often begin with Dr Kapur and, where specialist endocrinology is required, be escalated directly to Dr Bhana.

Preventative & longevity medicine

Dr Arnav Kapur

Medical Doctor | Longevity, Preventative & Functional Medicine

MBBCh Cum Laude, University of the Witwatersrand
Advanced Diploma in Aesthetic Medicine

Dr Kapur is the first point of care for many MLI patients, with a clinical focus on preventative medicine, metabolic and hormonal health, medical weight management, gut health, hair loss, performance and selected regenerative therapies.

Trained closely alongside Dr Bhana, he combines this established clinical approach with advanced diagnostics, regenerative medicine, hair restoration and multi-cancer early detection.

Dr Arnav Kapur is a medical doctor working across longevity, preventative, functional and performance medicine, with additional interests in regenerative medicine, advanced diagnostics, hair regeneration and emerging medical technologies.

He works closely with Dr Bhana and has been personally trained within the clinical approach Dr Bhana developed through decades of experience in endocrinology, metabolic medicine and functional medicine.

Today, Dr Kapur provides much of the Medical Longevity Institute's first-line patient care and acts as the principal entry point for patients seeking a deeper understanding of their health.

His work is particularly suited to patients who know something is not quite right, want to investigate their health more comprehensively, or want to improve long-term health before significant disease develops.

A broader approach to medicine

Dr Kapur's approach brings together multiple areas that are often treated separately. Depending on the patient, this may include:

  • Cardiovascular risk
  • Metabolic health
  • Insulin resistance
  • Weight management
  • Hormonal health
  • Thyroid assessment
  • Body composition
  • Gut and microbiome health
  • Sleep
  • Micronutrient status
  • Inflammation
  • Exercise and performance
  • Hair loss
  • Healthy ageing
  • Cancer risk and early detection

Rather than looking at a single blood test or symptom in isolation, the aim is to understand how these systems interact and build a clear, personalised medical strategy around the individual.

Longevity and preventative medicine

Dr Kapur has a particular interest in the emerging field of longevity medicine and in moving healthcare towards earlier identification of risk. His work combines conventional medicine with more advanced approaches to preventative care, including detailed biomarkers, metabolic and cardiovascular risk assessment, body composition, hormonal evaluation and emerging diagnostics.

He is also Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer of Longaevitas Health, a preventative healthcare company focused on technology-enabled, personalised preventative health. His work there sits at the intersection of medicine, artificial intelligence, preventative care and scalable health assessment.

Emerging medical technologies

Dr Kapur is particularly interested in technologies that may shift medicine from late diagnosis towards earlier detection and prevention. Through his broader professional work, he has been involved in areas including:

  • AI-enabled preventative healthcare
  • Multi-cancer early detection
  • Advanced biomarker interpretation
  • Personalised preventative health
  • Regenerative medicine
  • Biological ageing and emerging diagnostics

He also works with OmniHealth Africa in the field of multi-cancer early detection and emerging cancer screening technologies.

Regenerative medicine and hair restoration

Dr Kapur has a strong interest in hair loss and regenerative hair medicine. His experience includes international work in Mumbai, where he has worked with and been exposed to advanced approaches in hair restoration and regenerative therapies.

His work in this area includes medical hair-loss management as well as regenerative approaches involving PRF, exosome-based therapies and other emerging regenerative technologies.

His interest extends into regenerative aesthetics more broadly, where he focuses on treatments aimed at improving tissue quality and biological function rather than simply altering appearance.

Medical training

Dr Kapur graduated MBBCh Cum Laude from the University of the Witwatersrand. He also holds an Advanced Diploma in Aesthetic Medicine from the Foundation for Professional Development.

His clinical interests sit at the intersection of traditional medical practice and newer areas of personalised, preventative and regenerative medicine.

Choosing your pathway

Where should I start?

Many patients look for an endocrinologist because of weight gain, insulin resistance, fatigue, thyroid concerns or hormonal symptoms. Not all of these require specialist endocrinology.

Most patients can begin with Dr Kapur, who assesses the broader clinical picture and arranges the appropriate investigations and treatment. Because both doctors work within the same clinical framework, patients who need specialist endocrinology can be escalated internally without starting again elsewhere.

Start with Dr Kapur

  • Preventative and longevity care
  • Weight and metabolic health
  • Fatigue
  • Hormonal assessment
  • Men's health and testosterone
  • Perimenopause and menopause
  • Gut health

The right expertise at the right time

MLI is designed around continuity. Patients can begin with focused preventative, metabolic or hormonal care while retaining direct access to specialist endocrinology within the same practice.

This allows us to keep routine care accessible without losing specialist depth when a case becomes more complex.
